Jeff Carreira

Jeff Carreira is the Director of Education at EnlightenNext, a pioneering organization that is using educationalJeff Carreira programs, online and print publications as well as other forms of alternative media to catalyze a shift in human consciousness. Through courses, seminars, retreats, as well as online and other virtual forums, EnlightenNext is increasing people’s understanding of how consciousness evolves and how a new culture can be created.

This webpage is dedicated to the aspect of Carreira’s work that is fueled by his passion for American Philosphy and specifically its importance in the development of evolutionary aspects that can be seen as the predecessors of Integral Spirituality and Evolutionary Enlightenment as represented by Ken Wilber and Andrew Cohen. People like Ralph Waldo EmersonCharles Sanders PeirceWilliam James and John Dewey are known to many in America, but how important their contribution to today’s emerging world view is and thereby part of the American mind is beautifully coming out of Carreira’s talks and blog posts. Through immersing yourself in this inquiry you are struck by the sense that we are – as those great thinkers were at the time – at the edge of a process that is non-dual, ever growing more complex, inherently positive and constantly moving forward – calling for each and every one of us to do the same.

Carreira originally received an undergraduate degree in Physics and spent five years working as a research engineer in a telecommunications firm before realizing that life’s deepest questions could not be answered through science alone. He then decided to work in a more humanitarian field and received an M.Ed. in Curriculum and Instruction and spent seven years working as a special education teacher and school administrator.

It was during the time that he worked as an educator that Carreira met spiritual teacher Andrew Cohen and became involved with EnlightenNext. During 16 years of association with EnlightenNext he has acted successfully in a variety of prominent roles. In 1994 he was one of the founding members of EnlightenNext Boston – a spiritual center that continues to operate. He was also EnlightenNext’s marketing director from 1998 to 2001. In 2001 Carreira was asked to serve as Andrew Cohen’s personal assistant, a position he still fulfills today, and in 2005 he became the organization’s Director of Education.

In his role as Director of Education Carreira has created a robust educational program by creating courses and training over 80 teachers to teach throughout the world. He has also built a strong membership program by experimenting with online and telecommunications based educational and communication tools. He believes that human beings at the start of the 21st Century need to create a strong sense of global community founded in profound philosophical and spiritual values and united in an effort to evolve to higher possibilities of consciousness and culture. He lives as part of an intentional community at the EnlightenNext World Center in Lenox, Massachusetts and continues to work to educate and connect people who are interested in the potential of evolution.

Carreira’s interest in American Philosophy was sparked when he recognized how much the work he is involved in has been influenced by some of American culture’s greatest original thinkers and philosophers, such as Ralph Waldo Emerson, William James, Charles Sanders Peirce and John Dewey. In his talks Carreira shares his insights into the specifics of American Philosophy that brought about Pragmatism and influenced the thinking that led to Integral Theory and Evolutionary Enlightenment. Read here what people said about the talks.
