Last night I had the opportunity to give a talk called “The American Philosophical Roots of Evolutionary Enlightenment.” The talk covered some of the philosophical links between Ralph Waldo Emerson and the New England Transcendentalists of the mid 19th Century and William James and the American Pragmatists of the early 20th Century.
The talk was very well received and I was asked repeatedly if I could provide a reading list and online resources. Here is a short list of books and resources that I highly recommend.

The Metaphysical Club: A Story of Ideas in America by Louis Menand
